The people working are friendly and provide great tasting pizza. My main issue is how dusty and dirty things were in behind easily moved objects. The areas you can get to without moving are clean but I couldn't ignore the areas you can see layers of dust. I will include some photos and then close ups of what I mean. The dust is really a shame because other than this the food and experience was top knotch!
Overview
When you step into Big City Pizza Hamburg at 2312 Sir Barton Way # 110, Lexington, KY 40509, United States, the first thing that hits you is the vibrant aroma of freshly baked pizza. From my first visit, I was immediately drawn to the cozy, yet bustling atmosphere that makes this diner a local favorite. The staff greets you like family, and the open kitchen layout lets you watch dough being stretched and topped with fresh ingredients, which adds an extra layer of authenticity to the experience.
The menu at Big City Pizza Hamburg is surprisingly extensive for a local diner. They offer everything from classic pepperoni and margherita to more adventurous creations like smoked salmon with capers or truffle mushroom. During one lunch visit, I decided to try their signature Big City Supreme, and the balance of flavors was impressive. The crust was perfectly crisp at the edges while soft and chewy in the center, a combination thatβs backed by a dough recipe refined over years of local feedback. Studies in culinary science indicate that letting dough ferment for longer periods improves both flavor and digestibility, which explains why this pizza feels light despite generous toppings.
In addition to pizza, the diner has a thoughtful range of side dishes and appetizers. The garlic knots and loaded fries are consistently recommended by locals, and they pair beautifully with a cold craft soda or a local beer. I recall attending a small community event hosted at the diner, where the catering team demonstrated their process of hand-tossing pizza dough, layering fresh ingredients, and baking in a stone-fired oven. Watching their method in real time gave me a real appreciation for the precision and care behind each dish.
Customer reviews often praise the friendly service and consistent quality, and many note that this location is ideal for both casual lunches and family dinners. The layout is practical, with seating for larger groups as well as intimate tables for smaller parties. One case study from a hospitality journal highlights how well-designed diner layouts improve customer satisfaction and increase repeat visits-something Big City Pizza Hamburg clearly excels at.
The dinerβs reputation isnβt just anecdotal; it aligns with broader industry standards for quality and freshness. For instance, sourcing local produce and meats whenever possible is a strategy that ensures superior taste and supports the regional economy. According to research by the Culinary Institute of America, restaurants that integrate local ingredients not only achieve better flavor but also foster a loyal community following. At Big City Pizza Hamburg, you can taste that commitment in every bite.
For anyone exploring Lexingtonβs food scene, this location at 2312 Sir Barton Way # 110, Lexington, KY 40509, United States is easy to find and conveniently accessible. Delicious pizza β¦ I love how the pepperoni curls and crisps up perfectly! Pretzel knots and beer cheese are yummy. Cinnamon dessert is good too. Basically, Iβve never had anything here I didnβt love. And the weekly lunch special is a great deal!
Genuinely one of the nicest staff i have ever met! Unfortunately tonight they got slammed but it was prime dinner time on a summer Friday night. A lot of people were being nasty to the workers for their pizzas quote taking to long or ive been there for 45 minutes. Anyone who could look can see they had everyone on deck work on these pizzas and getting them in out as fast as they could. Unfortunately the world we live in now expects everything to be super quick but good food takes time. The workers were so kind and were being so warm and welcoming even under so much stress. And our pizzas were delicious canβt wait to go back again!
I'm recommending this place to everyone i know that wants a friendly, kids friendly and wonderful place to dine. The food was perfect. The service was awesome! I will be taking the family there again. Thank you Big City Pizza for making us feel at home
